Caring for the elderly and people with disabilities in Samoa has taken a new level when close to 30 participants to the Samoa Victim Support Group Caregivers Training will be graduating this Thursday, 14 December 2017.

The 3-months training had been approved by the Samoa Qualification Authorities as a Non Formal Learning Activity.  In partnership with the Australian Pacific Technical College (APTC), SVSG had trained caregivers in the homes, on the basic skills on how to care for the elderly and the people with disabilities.

According to the APTC Country Manager Pat Vella, during the official opening of the program in 2016, “the training provides a life skill for everyday living.”  This is what makes this graduation special.

One of the graduates from the program had also completed a Certificate III in Age Care & Community Services from the APTC in Suva Fiji.

The graduation ceremony will be held at the Samoa Stationery & Books Conference Room, kindly sponsored by Aumua Ming & Fiti Leung Wai.

Thank you to ANZ Bank (Samoa Limited), Federal Pacific Finance, Lesa’s Telephone Services and many others who have sponsored the training program.

“Last but not the least, thank you to the Program Accreditation Team from the Samoa Qualification Authority for working in partnership with SVSG to ensure that the Caregivers Training meets the requirements for it to be recognized as Non Formal Learning.” Siliniu Lina Chang
