This is the second year in a roll since the Marist College of New Zealand has visited the Campus of Hope, the temporary home to approximately 70 children survivors of violence currently under the care of Samoa Victim Support Group.
More than 20 students and teachers from the Marist College spent four (4) days with the children on Campus, running activities as part of their community service work.
This is the Marist spirit of giving, as the students and teachers self-funded their travel to spend their school break with the children of hope. The students, teachers and the parents fundraised for this trip and have put together educational resources and various goods that were donated to SVSG.
A pallet full of donations was presented on their last day, together with monetary donation of ST10,000.00. This is the Marist spirit of giving, for the less fortunate and the vulnerable in the community.
The children survivors were at ease with the Marist students; there was fellowship, there was love and there were a lot of tears, as the Marist students were overcome with emotion for the magnitude of work required to provide for the children of hope. The children in turn showed their resilience through dancing, singing and playing with their visiting friends as they shared a meal to farewell them.
President of SVSG Siliniu Lina Chang, and an ex-student of the Marist College New Zealand was humbled by the school’s willingness to lend a helping hand. “Thank you so much to the Principal and the Board of Trustee for allowing the continued fellowship between the Marist College New Zealand and the School of Hope, through the annual Marist College Malaga.”
“SVSG and its work will always draw strength from a strong family of supporters who share the heart to give.”
Thank you Marist College for sharing with SVSG the school’s spirit of giving.
